The Doors have sold an exhaustive slate of branding and publishing rights in a “monumental” deal.
Indie publisher Primary Wave Music has acquired rights previously owned by guitarist Robby Krieger and the estate of late keyboarding Ray Manzarek in relation to the band’s publishing catalogue, master recordings, trademarks, merchandising options and income.
As reported by Rolling Stone magazine, the rights owed to drummer John Densmore and late frontman Jim Morrison were not included in the sale, and Primary Wave is yet to reveal how much they paid.
In a statement, Krieger said: “After 58 years, and the most magical of times, I’ve decided to sell my share of The Doors to Primary Wave.
“This will enable me to help the many charities I’ve been involved with, and some new ones too. I know Primary Wave cares about music, art, and about helping legacies go to even bigger levels.
“Our longtime Doors manager Jeff Jampol will still be protecting our legacy in partnership with Primary Wave, so I’m comfortable and happy with the future of The Doors.”
Meanwhile, Manzarek’s widow Dorothy added that the family were “happy” with the agreement.
She said in her own statement: “Ray and I spent a lot of time discussing the future of The Doors’ legacy, and how to handle things after he departed this plane.
“Our family has worked patiently to find the right partners to continue Ray’s lifelong efforts in protecting and promoting his art, and now we are happy to have finally come to an agreement with Primary Wave.
“Under the continued guidance of our manager, Jeff Jampol, Primary Wave will be the right partners in this endeavor to build future generations of new Doors fans.”
The group was first formed in 1965 and stayed together until 1973, reuniting five years later.
With Morrison, they released six studio albums, starting with 1967’s self-titled debut and ending with ‘L.A. Woman’ in 1971.
They continued as a trio after his death, going onto release ‘Other Voices’ and ‘Full Circle’ in 1971 and 1972 respectively, before getting back together for 1978’s ‘An American Prayer’, which saw them set some of their late frontman’s spoken word recordings to music.

Panic! At The Disco are set to disband after their current tour.
The emo legends – who are best known for early classics including ‘I Write Sins Not Tragedies’ and ‘Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off’ and later pop hit ‘High Hopes’ – will call it quits after almost two decades together.
Frontman Brendon Urie, 35, is set to become a father shortly with his wife Sarah Urie expecting their first child, and he explained that it’s time to close this chapter of his life to focus on his family.
He announced in a social media statement: “Well, it’s been a hell of a journey…
“Growing up in Vegas I could’ve never imagined where this life would take me. So many places all over the world, and all the friends we’ve made along the way.
“But sometimes a journey must end for a new one to begin. We’ve been trying to keep it to ourselves, though some of you may have heard.. Sarah and I are expecting a baby very soon! The prospect of being a father and getting to watch my wife become a mother is both humbling and exciting. I look forward to this next adventure.
“That said, I am going to bring this chapter of my life to an end and put my focus and energy on my family, and with that Panic! At The Disco will be no more.”
Paying tribute to their fans, he concluded: “Thank you all for your immense support over the years. I’ve sat here trying to come up with the perfect way to say this and I truly can’t put into words how much it has meant to us. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or are just finding us, it has been a pleasure to not only share the stage with so many talented people but also share our time with you. I am looking forward to seeing everyone in Europe and the UK for one last run together.
“I love you. I appreciate you. Thank you for existing.
“Brendon.”
Panic! At The Disco formed in Las Vegas in 2004, then comprising Brendon, Brent Wilson, Ryan Ross, and Spencer Smith.
The line-up has seen many changes over the years, with Brendon ending up as the sole member of the group.
They released four albums as a band, while Brendon continued to use the band’s moniker for 2016’s ‘Death of a Bachelor’, 2018’s ‘Pray for the Wicked’ and 2022’s ‘Viva Las Vengeance’.
Brendon joined forces with pop megastar Taylor Swift on the duet ‘ME!’ in 2019, which reached Number 3 in the UK and 2 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The final date of the ‘Viva Las Vengeance Tour’ in Manchester on March 10, 2023, will mark the end of PATD.

Will Smith is to reprise his role as the Genie in the ‘Aladdin’ sequel.
The 54-year-old star is being lined up by Disney to return for the live-action sequel in one of his first roles since he slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars last year.
It is said that Will’s Genie will be playing an even bigger part than he did in the original 2019 movie.
The script for the sequel is currently being written and it is hoped that filming could begin at the end of the year.
A movie insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “This would be one of the first movies Will has shot since the Oscars slap and it is quite surprising, given that it will be for a kids’ film.
“He has done a lot of work on himself and the consensus is that it will all be very much in the past by the time the movie is released.
“The first film was a huge success so it would be silly not to make another, and it would be a real shame to have to re-cast Will over what happened.
“So Disney is keen to stand by him and bring him back into the fold.”
The first movie was directed by Guy Ritchie and made over £800 million at the box office and starred Mena Massoud, who played Aladdin, said last month that he was eager to return for a sequel.
The 31-year-old actor said: “There was a change with the writers, and they are working on a new draft. If ‘Aladdin 2’ happens, that’s fantastic. It should happen.
“It’s not going to be based off the animated version. This is going to be a new original story.”

Ghislaine Maxwell hates the food and work regime in prison.
The disgraced socialite – serving 20 years for sex trafficking and grooming underage girls for her late paedophile partner Jeffrey Epstein – said in an interview from her jail cell she despised the small portions she is served behind bars and lashed out at the standard of vegetarian options on offer, as well as the amount of chores she has to do in the day.
She told TalkTV in a pre-recorded interview from her cell shown on Monday (23.01.23): “The portion control is very odd. And when like me you’re on a no meat diet, you’re supposed to have either houmous or cottage cheese or tofu for you but most of the time, I’d say about 95 per cent, it’s tofu if it’s anything or beans – 95 per cent, it’s beans or otherwise you have a tofu substitute.
“And then the tofu has no seasoning, there’s no seasoning allowed. No salt or pepper or anything. So it’s beyond tasteless.”
She added about the work regime at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tallahassee, Florida, where she is being held: “So, they wake you up at 6. And you can go to breakfast, which consists of a cereal and fruit, a piece of fruit, generally. “And then you have to make your bed in military style so there is nothing that’s sticking out.
“It has to be a prescribed way otherwise you can get into trouble. You can get what’s called a ‘shot’.
“And then at 7.30am you go to work and for me that means I go to the law library, to help people so if they have detainers or they have warrants, or they are trying to appeal their case or… let’s see, if they are trying to get compassionate release or they ask about the first step back or how credits are applied to their time.
“That sort of thing, and I ask those types of questions.
“And if you are lucky they call recreation at some point during the day. If you are at work, you miss it and if you are not you get to go out for about an hour.”
Maxwell – who masterminded a global sex trafficking scheme that recruited young girls Epstein would abuse – failed to offer an apology to their victims, and she urged them to instead take out their anger on the authorities who “allowed” the death of her former lover in prison.
She also shared her view the financier, found hanged in his cell in New York in 2019 aged 66 while he was awaiting trial for sex trafficking, was murdered behind bars.

Mike Tyson is being accused of raping a woman in the early 1990s.
The 56-year-old former world heavyweight boxing champion – who was jailed for three years after being convicted of rape in 1992 – is being sued for $5 million by his alleged victim, who says he sexually assaulted her in a limousine after she met him at a nightclub in Albany, New York.
Her lawsuit, obtained by DailyMail.com on Tuesday (24.01.23), said: “I got in Tyson’s limousine to pick up my friend from her house.
“Tyson immediately started to touch me and attempted to kiss me. I told him no several times and asked him to stop, but he continued to attack me. He then pulled my pants off and violently raped me.”
The woman added she has suffered “physical, psychological and emotional injury” in the years since the ex-boxer’s alleged attack.
Her legal action in New York was filed under the state’s Adult Survivors Act, which gives sexual assault victims a one-year window to file lawsuits over assaults that happened years or even decades ago.
Her suit does not provide an exact date for Tyson’s alleged rape, but says it happened sometime in the early ’90s.
It was around the same time that beauty pageant contestant Desiree Washington, 50, said Tyson raped her in Indianapolis, which led him to be convicted of rape on 10 February 1992.
The woman says she wants to stay anonymous as she fears publication of her name would “certainly pose a risk to me of further mental harm, harassment, ridicule or personal embarrassment”.
She added in her suit: “I have developed lifelong problems including but not limited to issues with sex, and with being touched as a result of the rape.
“I have been unable to maintain and/or develop healthy relationships with men or anyone in general.
“I have experienced extreme emotional suffering including but not limited to nightmares, panic attacks and flashbacks.”
The woman’s attorney, Darren Seilback, said in a separate filing his office did not take the woman at her word but had investigated her allegations and found they were “highly credible”.
Tyson has not yet commented on the accusation.
The former boxer turned marijuana entrepreneur was the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990, but his life has been marred by his legal troubles and turbulent personal life.
Tyson’s former wife, actress Robin Givens, 58, said in divorce papers their marriage in the 1980s was characterised by his “unprovoked rages” of “violence and destruction”.
He was also disqualified from the ring in 1997 for biting opponent Evander Holyfield’s ear, battled a cocaine problem in his 40s and filed for bankruptcy in 2003 after he blew around $300 million in career earnings.

Justin Bieber has sold the rights to his entire back catalogue, including megahits “Despacito,” “Sorry” and “Baby,” to Hipgnosis Song Management.
The song investment company says it’s struck an agreement with the Stratford, Ont.-raised pop singer for his share of all publishing copyrights and royalties from his master recordings.
The deal covers Bieber’s entire back catalogue of more than 290 titles released before the end of 2021.
Terms were not disclosed by Hipgnosis and the company declined to put a value on the deal.
Hipgnosis Songs Fund, operated by Middleton, N.S., native Merck Mercuriadis, has spent the past few years striking major deals with some of the world’s most prominent artists, hoping to capitalize on new revenue streams for music, including its use on TikTok and other social media platforms.
Several of the company’s biggest acquisitions have been with Canadians.
In 2021, Hipgnosis bought the royalty rights owned by Winnipeg-born producer Bob Rock on some of Michael Buble’s Christmas hits and Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and a 50 per cent stake in more than 1,000 songs from 77-year-old Neil Young.
“This acquisition ranks among the biggest deals ever made for an artist under the age of 70,” said Mercuriadis in a statement.
“Such is the power of this incredible catalogue that has almost 82 million monthly listeners and over 30 billion streams on Spotify alone.”

Cardi B thinks “not bragging enough” is her biggest flaw.
The 30-year-old rapper – who is one of the world’s best-selling music stars – believes she ought to be louder about her own achievements.
The ‘Bodak Yellow’ hitmaker – who worked as a stripper before finding success in the music business – wrote on Twitter: “My biggest flaw is not bragging enough.”
Cardi – who has Kulture, four, and Wave, 16 months, with rap star Offset – subsequently posted a photograph of her younger sister, Hennessy, in two revealing outfits.
The images divided opinion among Cardi’s social media followers – but the chart-topping star quickly fired back at the critics.
Cardi retweeted a message that read: “Why can’t people say someone looks beautiful and GO? If Cardi looks beautiful or Hennessy looks beautiful just say that. The extra s*** just gives pressed and obsessed. Idk stop reaching.”
Meanwhile, Cardi previously admitted to being happier before she became famous.
The ‘WAP’ hitmaker – who married Offset in 2017 – no longer worries about her financial situation, but Cardi insisted she felt happier “two or three years ago.”
She said: “One positive thing is that, my family, whatever they want, they get. Everything that I want to buy, I can get. I don’t have to worry so much about my future.
“One negative thing is that, even though I’m happy, I feel like I was a little bit happier two or three years ago when I had less money.
“I had less people who had opinions about my life. I felt like my life was mine.
“Now I feel like I don’t even own my life. I feel like the world owns me.”

Pete Davidson appears to have removed the tattoos he dedicated to Kim Kardashian.
The 29-year-old ‘Bodies, Bodies, Bodies’ actor had several inkings paying tribute to his reality star ex and her children while they dated for nine months between 2021 and last year, but fans have now spotted they seem to have vanished when he was seen shirtless on a trip to Hawaii with his rumoured new girlfriend Chase Sui Wonders over the weekend.
Pete was photographed in October with a bandage above his left collarbone where he had a tattoo saying “My girl is a lawyer” in reference to Kim taking up legal training.
The snap prompted speculation he had laser treatments to remove the ink, with Page Six reporting on Monday the new photos of him in Hawaii “confirm the removal” as “the Kardashian tribute is nowhere to be seen.”
Pete also seems to have had an inking removed from his collarbone that showed a ‘Jasmine and Aladdin’ design in memory of the sketch he appeared in with Kim on ‘Saturday Night Live’ showing them dressed as the two characters from Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ cartoon, which saw them share their first kiss.
Pete, who has more than 70 tattoos, also appears to have removed his neck tattoo saying ‘KNSCP’, referencing the first initials of Kim, 42, and the four children she has with 45-year-old rapper Kanye West – North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm.
He also had the name ‘Kim’ branded on his chest, but this has also disappeared, with only a faint scar visible on his torso in its place in the images from Hawaii.
Kim said last spring on the Ellen DeGeneres show Pete had told her about his chest tattoo of her name: “I don’t want to be able to get rid of it or to cover it up, and I just wanted it there as a scar on me.”
Pete, who was recently linked to model Emily Ratajkowski, 31, has been seen out on several dates with his ‘Bodies, Bodies, Bodies’ co-star Chase, 26, including on a trip to Universal Studios where they were seen holding hands.

James Cameron has become the first director with three movies to have earned more than $2 billion at the global box office.
The filmmaker’s sequel ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ has now crossed the $2 billion mark, following the first movie (2009’s ‘Avatar’) and 1998’s ‘Titanic’.
A total of six movies have now crossed the milestone, including Marvel blockbuster ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
Cameron previously said the film would have to be the “third or fourth highest-grossing film in history” just to break even.
The 68-year-old director confessed the flick was “very f******” expensive to make.
Speaking about how the film could be profitable, he said: “You have to be the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history.
“That’s your threshold. That’s your break even.”
The franchise’s four sequels all have an expected budget of around $1 billion.
Cameron also admitted he is attracted to “difficult” projects.
He added in a recent interview: “I like difficult. I’m attracted by difficult. Difficult is a f****** magnet for me. I go straight to difficult.
“And I think it probably goes back to this idea that there are lots of smart, really gifted, really talented filmmakers out there that just can’t do the difficult stuff.
“So that gives me a tactical edge to do something nobody else has ever seen, because the really gifted people don’t f****** want to do it.”
Meanwhile, Cameron has implored movie fans to get off their backsides and go to the cinema.
The director is thrilled to see more and more people heading back to theatres to see movies in all their glory post-pandemic.
He said: “I’m thinking of it in the terms of we’re back to theatres around the world, people are going back to theatres, even going to theatres in China where they’re having this huge COVID surge.
“We’re saying as a society, ‘We need this. We need to go to movie theatres and have that experience.’ Enough with the streaming already. I’m tired of sitting on my a**.”

Pamela Anderson has alleged Tim Allen flashed her on the set of ‘Home Improvement’.
The 55-year-old former Playboy model has claimed her co-star on the ’90s sitcom showed her his penis in the hallway outside her dressing room and she “laughed uncomfortably.”
In an excerpt of her upcoming memoir, ‘Love, Pamela’, published in Variety, she wrote: “On the first day of filming, I walked out of my dressing room, and Tim was in the hallway in his robe. He opened his robe and flashed me quickly — completely naked underneath.”
She added: “He said it was only fair, because he had seen me naked. Now we’re even. I laughed uncomfortably.”
However, Tim, 69, has denied the flashing incident took place.
He told the publication: “No, it never happened. I would never do such a thing.”
Elsewhere in the tell-all, Pamela admitted she was “saved” by her children.
The former ‘Baywatch’ actress’ boys Brandon, 26, and Dylan, 25, were just toddlers when she filed for divorce from their father, rocker Tommy Lee, in 1998, and she admitted being a parent gave her something to focus on in the time that followed.
She said: “They saved me. I don’t want to put that on my kids but having children changed everything. I’ve loved every moment…
“Brandon is really creative and is this fiery kind of kid. Dylan is more introspective and more Zen. It’s a good team.”
The 55-year-old actress thinks her sons have grown up to be “true miracles.”
She wrote: “Brandon and Dylan are true miracles, considering their gene pool. They have been through so much, yet they are not full of holes.”
Pamela filed for divorce from the Motley Crue rocker after he was charged with spousal abuse and she thinks they “really let [their] kids down” with their relationship issues.
She reflected in a recent interview: “I think we really let our kids down. And that’s something it’s really hard for me to forgive myself about. We should have found a way through it. I couldn’t accept any kind of violent manoeuver. It was my childhood fears coming out. I didn’t want that for my kids and as much as I loved Tommy more than anything in the world, I loved my kids more.”
The pair’s relationship floundered after their personal videos – which were later made into an infamous sex tape and sold without their permission – were stolen and they were unable to deal with the attention the scandal brought.
Pamela, who claims to have never seen the tape, said: “We dealt with it the best way we knew how and some of it got crazy. And Tommy and I, between the two of us, I don’t think we had the maturity level to really handle it all.”

The Rhode Island Department of Health says it was not able “to definitively confirm or refute the presence of Santa” in a young girl’s home after she requested to have a partially eaten cookie and a couple of gnawed-on carrot sticks tested for DNA to see if Santa Claus is real.
The department tweeted on Monday that “we all agree that something magical may be at play.”
The department said it found no complete matches to anyone in the Combined DNA Index System but said there was a partial match “to a 1947 case centered around 34th Street in New York City,” referring to the movie “Miracle on 34th Street.” It said it would need more DNA samples “from other known Santa encounters to make a definitive match.”
The “good news” is that the lab did find the presence of DNA closely matching Rangifer tarandus, known as reindeer, when testing the carrots, the department said.
The girl, a Cumberland resident, had sent the cookie and carrot sticks to the town’s police department to ask if they can be tested for DNA, Chief Matthew Benson said on Friday. Benson forwarded the “evidence” to the state’s Department of Health-Forensic Sciences unit for analysis.
