Mumbai: Why is a door handle at the end of the door instead of the middle? How does a seesaw balance children of different weights? A 3D board designed by 12th grader Vibhav Singh from the city-based Aditya Birla World Academy aims to explain these concepts to schoolchildren across the country in a unique way.
Named ‘Science Aas Paas’, the board is enabling youngsters to see science around them in every object and action. The 3D board is an effort to showcase the ‘Why?’ in science.
Teach For India (TFI) took note of Singh’s efforts as a ‘revolutionary changemaker’. To share his innovation with other educators, TFI has documented his work. Based on an architectural concept that uses building as learning aid, Science Aas Paas has reached more than 60 schools and over 4,800 students across India.
“Ask a student to define and you shall receive an impeccable answer. Ask a student to explain or apply, and suddenly, they’re mute. Science Aas Paas enables students to tinker with objects that force students to think and question. As a result, students are no longer reliant on a two-line definition,” Singh said.
