DEES CONSIDERING BIG TRADE PLAY

Melbourne is reportedly considering trading out a future first-round pick on draft night in order to snare pick No.19 – the first pick of the draft’s second night.

The Demons currently hold two future first-round picks after receiving Fremantle’s as part of a trade for Luke Jackson.

Pick No.19 is a valuable selection given the two-night draft format, with the order of selections on night one potentially shaking up the order and offering clubs an opportunity to pounce on a draft slider.

The Age reports the Dees are considering the trade.

Melbourne, NorthMelbourne and the Western Bulldogs are the three clubs holding two future first-round selections.

Trading of picks is now not allowed until the draft commences on November 28.

The Age also reports several recruiters believe none of the top-10 selections will be traded.

Still, there could be a move within the top-10, with Essendon considering trading its pick No.4 to move slightly down the order but acquire a future selection.

The Bombers are keenly eyeing South Australian Mattaes Phillipou, who looms as something of a wildcard in this year’s draft given where he could be taken.

GIANTS CLOSING IN ON CADMAN

Greater Western Sydney coach Adam Kingsley has said key forward Aaron Cadman is “certainly in the mix” to be taken with pick one.

The Giants completed a trade with North Melbourne this off-season that saw them receive the top selection in the draft.

It gives the Giants three picks in the opening round of the draft and the sought-after first pick of the second round.

Kingsley said Cadman, who captained Victoria Country in this year’s national championships, was firmly in the mix.

“He’s a very good player, we love the way he plays, but there are a number of players at the top end who we still need to work our way through and discuss the best fit for out footy club,” he said.

“I’ll certainly be fully aware of the options we have for that pick and all the picks we have.”

“We’ve got a great draft hand and we need to turn it into really good players.”
