A glaring omission in Network Ten’s morning line-up has spelt the end of its news breakfast program.

Starting January 9, 2023, Everyday Gourmet With Justine Schofield and a re-run of Entertainment Tonight will take the place of 10 News First Breakfast.

Studio 10 has also been shortened from its 8.30am -12pm slot, instead almost halving its run time, starting at 10.00am and running until 12.00pm.

A media release from the network made no mention of 10 News First Breakfast than its omission from the line-up, which starts earlier next year, nor did it mention Studio 10’s reduced running time.

“Studio 10 returns in 2023 with a fresh take on what everyone’s talking about, with a brand-new season of chat, showbiz, and plenty of fun to brighten up your mornings, with the much loved hosting ensemble of Tristan MacManus, Angela Bishop, Narelda Jacobs and everybody’s favourite roving reporter, Daniel Doody,” the statement said.

Ten announced in late November that Studio 10 star Sarah Harris would be the new host of The Project, appearing on the show five nights a week alongside Waleed Aly.

10 News First: Breakfast, which began airing in June, reportedly delivered the lowest-ever ratings in Australian TV history in early July, with just 44 viewers.

It appears 10 News First Breakfast has been replaced with an hour-long 10 News First: Midday as the network’s breakfast/ daytime news bulleting running for an hour between 12pm and 1pm.

Newsreader Narelda Jacobs has been brought in as its presenter.

“Talk about hitting the ground running in 2023. I’m thrilled to be able to share the world’s big moments on Studio 10, then deliver the day’s biggest headlines on 10 News First: Midday,” she said.

“When viewers stop to catch a breath at midday, I’ll be there with an exciting new national bulletin alongside some of the country’s best reporters.”

Head of broadcast news at Network Ten, Martin White, claimed the midday bulletin “expanded” the daily news footprint.

“It’s a multi-platform bulletin to satisfy the need for on-demand Australian news content wherever you are,” he said.

News.com.au understands staff impacted will be redeployed to other shows.
